She remembers the first time, she saw La Sylphide - of course, she already knew it, had learned some parts of in from watching DVDs with Shimizu-sensei, but the first time she really saw it was that year when the entire family went to Copenhagen on a spring vacation and they’d secured the best seats, so she sat on the first row, right in the middle and when the overture floated into the Sylph’s first variation, her heart beat and it broke. That night she lost herself to the Bournonville style and to Ulrikke Buch-Carlsen who danced it in introduction. As Airi now fills out her own spot in the Royal Danish Ballet and with pride, she’s still searching. For her heart’s pieces. For herself.
